Bulgaria Accommodation

Svilengrad (50k from Edirne Turkey) – Hotel Central, Main street, Svilengrad.  We paid 60 Lev for a clean and comfortable room, with ensuite, wi-fi (didn’t reach our room on 2nd floor but worked in lobby and attached pub), and TV with English channels.  Bikes were stored in basement.  There are a couple of hotels in this town, the price of this one is consistent with 2 others that we looked at.  There is a hotel across the street that wanted 90 Lev.  There is also some kind of hostel in town (Hotel Elite) but we couldn’t find anyone to answer the door.

Haskovo (67k from Svilengrad) – Hotel Rodopi, 6300 Haskovo 39, Bulgaria boulevard, centre of the town near the vegetable market (www.hotel-rodopi.com).  We paid 54Lev for a double room with ensuite, TV, free wi-fi in room, breakfast included.  Bikes were kept locked in lobby area under the stairwell.  Clean room and bathroom, walking distance to shopping area with lots of restaurants.  There is also a restaurant attached to the hotel.

Plovdiv (79k from Haskovo) – Plovdiv Guesthouse, 20 Saborna Street Plovdiv (www.plovdivguest.com).  We paid 68 Lev for a double room with ensuite, wi-fi in room, TV with English channels, breakfast included.  Room was very bright and clean, though it was on the top floor so it meant a several flights of stairs with the bags.  The place was quiet and staff spoke very good English.  Breakfast is pretty sparse, but you can use the kitchen facilities.  This place is in the old city area which is a bit hard to navigate with very rough rocky roads.  The easiest way to reach it with the least possible unrideable roads is to get to the main pedestrian street in the city and walk past the mosque up to the old city, past the big church (keep it on your right).  The guesthouse is on the right hand side, big pink building.

Pazardzhik (37k from Plovdiiv) – Primavera Hotel, Asen Zlatarov Str. 26 ( http://hotelsprimavera.com, we stayed in Primavera 1).  We paid 50 Lev for a very large room with ensuite, balcony, refrigerator, TV with English channels and wi-fi in the room, breakfast not included.  Bikes were stored on balcony of room.  Very clean and comfortable room, lovely staff, great value for money.  There is a restaurant on the ground floor that makes good pizza.  The hotel is through a little alleyway in the downtown area.

Velingrad (45k from Pazardzhik) – Hotel Magi, in centre of town at the end of a pedestrian only street.  We paid 40 Lev for a double room with ensuite and balcony, small refrigerator in room, TV with some English channels, wi-fi in room, breakfast not included.  Bikes were kept down in basement.  The room and bathroom were pretty basic and the bed wasn’t super comfortable but it was sufficient for a night.

Bansko (85k from Velingrad via detour) – Park Hotel Gardenia  72 Tzar Simeon Street, Bansko (http://www.parkhotelgardenia.com).  We paid 65 Lev for a double room with ensuite, refrigerator, TV with English channels, wi-fi in room, breakfast included, bikes stored in secure storage.  Modern hotel just down from pedestrian street in old city centre.  Rooms clean and comfortable.

Sandanski (91k from Bansko) – Heavan Hotel, a bit hidden in a neighborhood a couple of streets down the hill from the pedestrian street.  We paid 30 Lev for a double room with ensuite, free wi-fi in room, balcony, TV with English channels, bikes stored in the room.  Pretty basic family run hotel but seemed to be relatively new and was okay for a night.
