Six months on the road

(written by Dave)

Note/warning:  today’s post has a massive review slideshow – this post will probably be best read/viewed at the website, rather than in email.  I’m sure that the email will truncate the photos at some point.

Today marks six months since the start of our trip.  When we look back at some of the early days, they seem so long and far ago, almost another lifetime.  Yet, we’ve somehow made it over 8,000/5,000 km from Sydney and are still in one piece.  It has really been a trip of two halves, the first half in Australia where we could get a decent egg and bacon roll, and the second half in SE Asia where you can hardly get pork.  But the good news it that we are in fact we are still speaking to each other and broadly still having a great time.  To say it was all a cakewalk would be lying but on balance, there has been a whole lot more good than bad.

In honour of making it six months (and partially because we did absolutely nothing of note today), I put together a collage of photos from the start of the trip through to today.  Some we’ve posted before, some are making first appearances.  It was really hard to get it down to the 60ish in the slideshow.  We have over 4,500 pictures so far (thank goodness for digital cameras).

Later I may do a couple other slideshows.  I’ve got one in mind that will show all the incredible folks we’ve met and who have helped us out – no way we would had near as much fun without them.  And I’m also thinking of doing another slideshow of just Nancy eating.  Not that she eats a lot, rather I seem to take lots of photos of her eating.

We have had a nice rest here in Hua Hin – special thanks to Chris and his family for letting us use their great condo.  Tomorrow it’s back on the bikes as we continue our trek northward.

  1. I just realized that I miss seeing Australia on a daily basis. 🙂 Then again your adventures through Asia have given me a view into a part of the world that I have never experienced and it is second only to me being there myself.

  2. CONGRATULATIONS!! Just keep on treking and stay safe! I certainly have no knowledge of your travels in Asia. Different but pretty. You are both very BRAVE! Love, Mom Peterson

  3. 6 months, WOW! Congrats! What has been the high point and what has been the low point (the ants perhaps?) of your trip so far? Looking forward to reading the next 6 months of your ride.
